Debbies Clay Art
Meet the Maker
I began making art dolls when I needed a very special gift for my parents for Christmas. We could not make it home that year. I saw a magazine with a hand sculpted
Santa on it and decided to make one myself. It took a very long time, but it was a special keepsake for them. I am self taught. I loved the process and began making more. It became
my passion. I began selling them at craft shows, then large art shows all around the country. I do not travel with them anymore but am still creating all the time. I still love the
process, when all the pieces come together and their little personality shines through. They talk to me, and if you listen closely, they might talk to you too.
How it’s Made
My elves are sculpted one at a time. I do not use molds so each will be different. Their bodies have a heavy wire armature so they
will stand or sit by themselves. That is wrapped to create the shape. Next is the clothing. I go thru my fabric stash and try to
find the exact color and textures that elf will wear. Their hair is sheep's wool. The accessories included are in the description for each one.
When they are complete, they will usually let me know what their name should be.
