About this Product

Their very first meal as Mr and Mrs celebrated with beautiful vintage silverware.   Hand stamped and an heirloom keepsake of their moments together.  The spoons are hand stamped with “will you” and the date she heard those words along with  “i do”  and the date they spoke those words together.    The forks are stamped with their initials - forever together now.   The dinner knives are included to complete the setting.

Each set will be a hand picked, eclectic mix of silverplate patterns that includes two teaspoons, two forks, and two dinner knives.   These are genuine mid-century vintage pieces.  They have seen many celebrations and will show a few gentle signs of their years.  Lovingly polished and hand stamped they are ready for their next 50 years.

- The teaspoons measure approximately 6 inches.
- The forks measure approximately 7 - 7 1/2 inches
- The dinner knives measure approximately 8 inches
- As it is genuine antique silverware, it should be hand washed.
- The pieces shown in the listing photos are examples of my work.  The silverware that you receive will be just as beautiful, but the silver pattern may be different than the one that is pictured.  Every piece created is unique.

Prose & Polish offers upcycled and repurposed vintage silverplate flatware. Each piece created is truly vintage - carefully curated through estate sales, antique shops, and auctions. They aren’t perfect, they will show their age — but their age and history are part of what makes them beautiful ❤  Once home, they are carefully cleaned and polished by hand. The sentiment is stamped letter by letter into the silver with a hammer and anvil.
Hand stamping is a very old craft, done with a hammer, anvil and steel stamps.  Each letter is hammered individually into the silver.   There may be slight variances in the spacing and depth of the lettering.  It is intentional and yields a hand crafted, artistic look befitting the vintage silverware.  Hammering into the front of the silverware will leave a small mark on the back. This is not a defect, but rather a sign of a well crafted piece — like the knots on the back of embroidery or the stitching on the back of a quilt.  I hope you see this and know that every letter on your silverware was lovingly placed there.  May it bring joy to your table!

Please take a moment to browse the shop .. I offer a growing selection of pieces and always welcome custom orders.  If there is a special message that you would like stamped - please contact me.  I always love a new creative suggestion :)

Each piece created by Prose & Polish is true vintage silverplate  - carefully curated through estate sales, antique shops, and auctions.  They are not new pieces, but rather old ones -- exhibiting the beauty of a life well lived.   Once home, they are carefully cleaned and polished by hand.   The sentiment is stamped letter by letter into the silver with a hammer and anvil.  Each piece is then polished again, tagged, ribboned, and repurposed for you. Any piece in the shop can be customized.  If there is something that you would like to change about a design in the shop - or if you have a design in mind that you would like to share with me,  please feel free to send me a message.   I would be very happy to work with you to create your own silver heirlooms.

Meet the Maker

I was born old .. not in a Benjamin Button sort of a way,  but in a hot tea, old house, wooly sweater sort of a way.   I've always appreciated the craftsmanship and beauty in all things old and loved.   The way old floors creak when you walk on them and old books smell when you open them.
Antique silver is of course a favorite.  The thought that these pieces have been here since long before I have.  I wonder at the hands that have held them and the celebrations they have been witness to.  I spend weekends trolling estate sales and antique auctions -- not looking for perfect, just looking for beautiful.   I love them even more when I can find them a bit neglected and take them home to polish them back to beautiful.  It's almost like opening an incredible gift under a simple craft paper wrapping.
I have been stamping jewelry for years and only recently thought to stamp silverware.  It is so much more personal and I love that my pieces become quirky valentines, sweet momentos of bigger moments, and family heirlooms.
It has truly brought my loves of antiquing and crafting to one very happy place for me.... thank you for letting me share it with you !
