How it’s Made

Creating a groovy double fan pattern ice dye shirt is a journey into a world of vibrant colors and unique designs! First, gather your supplies: a white cotton shirt, some colorful fiber-reactive dyes, soda ash, ice, rubber bands, squeeze bottles, gloves, a plastic rack, and a plastic bin.

Start by soaking your shirt in a soda ash solution for about 15 minutes to help those colors really pop. Wring out the excess solution, then lay your shirt flat. To create the double fan pattern, fold the shirt in half lengthwise. Starting at one end, fold the shirt in an accordion style toward the center, creating a fan shape. Repeat this on the other side so you have two fans meeting in the middle. Secure your folded shirt with rubber bands to keep it all in place.

Next, set up your ice-dying station by placing a plastic rack over a plastic bin to catch all the colorful drips. Place your folded and banded shirt on the rack and cover it with a generous layer of ice. Get your dye powders ready and sprinkle them over the ice-covered shirt, using different colors for a magical effect. As the ice melts, it’ll carry the dye through the fabric, creating those awesome double-fan patterns.

Let the ice melt completely, which can take several hours. For the best results, let the shirt sit for about 24 hours to really let those colors soak in. After the wait, rinse the shirt in cold water until the water runs clear. Wash it in cold water with a mild detergent, and let it dry.

What you'll have is a beautiful, one-of-a-kind double fan pattern ice-dye shirt, bursting with vibrant colors and peaceful vibes. Peace, love, and creativity!
