I forge these Oak leaf Carbon Steel Skillets out of 1/8 inch plate steel. I forge the skillets to shape by hand on the depression of my swage block (see picture). I do not use a press or die to make these.
I forge the detail into the oak leaf by hand using a chisel and then forge the relief into the leaf using a small cross oien hammer. The handle is riveted on to the skillet by using 2 quarter inch rivets that I forge. The handle on the 9.5 inch and about 6.5 inches long.
I season these skillets at the forge with vegetable oil and they are very non stick and are ready to use. Care for these skillets is the same as cast iron cook ware. The benefit of these over cast iron is they are lighter and are more non stick than cast iron. Just use a little cooking oil of your choice, grease, or spray, when cooking and you are good to go.
I make sure they are forged flat and they will work with any cook surface including induction cook tops.
