How it’s Made
Creating a far-out color burst pattern ice dye tie-dye shirt is a cosmic trip! First, gather your gear: a white cotton shirt, some vibrant fiber reactive dye powders, soda ash, ice, squeeze bottles, a plastic rack, a plastic bin, gloves, and rubber bands. Start by soaking the shirt in a soda ash solution for about 15 minutes to make those colors really shine, then wring out the extra liquid.
Now, it’s time to get creative with your color burst design! Lay the shirt flat and scrunch it up in random, organic folds to create lots of surface area for the dye to work its magic. Secure your scrunched masterpiece with rubber bands to keep it in place.
Next, set up your ice dyeing space by placing a plastic rack over a plastic bin to catch all the colorful drips. Put your scrunched and banded shirt on the rack. Cover it with a generous layer of ice, then sprinkle your favorite dye powders over the top. As the ice melts, it’ll carry the dye through the fabric, creating those epic bursts of color.
