Meet the Maker
Welcome to Dawn A’s Craft Boutique! I design, create, and sew everything that you see in my shop.
I grew up in the heart of the Adirondacks in New York state, spent a few years in Hawaii, and, for now, live on 14 acres of woods in the middle of nowhere. When I was a young girl, maybe 10 years old, my maternal grandmother tried to teach me how to knit and crochet. Let's just say it didn't work out quite the way either of us would have liked. When I was a bit older and out on my own, I decided to try my hand at quilting. In my mind it had to be easier, probably because it didn't matter that I was left -handed...unlike knitting and crocheting.
Then I got a sewing machine and oh boy, the possibilities were endless. Now I have 3 vintage machines and an antique Singer 66 Lotus from 1909. My go-to machines are a Singer 1948 201-2 Blackside and a 1980 Bernina 900 Nova Electronic.
This year I’m hoping to focus on my art. Self-care is going to be so important for the next few years. Creating art helps me relax, along with yoga and lots of meditation, and I want to share that feeling with others. As I have said before, “In these trying times everyone needs to escape, even if only for a minute. Let my artwork take you someplace peaceful. You can visit the mountains or the beach, wherever your happy place might be.”
How it’s Made
Almost all my items are made with 100% cotton batiks. Why batiks? Every piece of batik fabric is a work of art itself. I love the freedom this gives me when creating. Batiks are created by first applying wax to portions of a piece of fabric. The fabric is then dyed and the wax removed. Most of the batiks I use are created on the island of Bali where they cure the dyed fabric in the tropical sunshine. Using these fabrics is like taking a tropical vacation without leaving home.
I currently create all my items using a 1948 Singer 201-2 blackside sewing machine in a lovely mahogany table that was my birthday gift to me in 2023. Unlike the standard Singer sewing machine, many of the normally bright plated parts on my machine utilized a chemically blacked finish instead. This is thought to have been in response to shortages of nickel and chromium due to World War II.

Returns and exchanges
I do not accept returns on sale items.
For all other items please contact me within 2 days of delivery. The item must be shipped back to me via Priority mail, or something comparable to how it was shipped to you, within 5 days of delivery.
Conditions of return
Buyers are responsible for return shipping costs. If the item is not returned in its original condition, the buyer is responsible for any loss in value. Your refund will be issued once I have received your item(s) and determined their condition.
FAQ's and Important Notifications
What are your shop hours for 2025?
My online shop is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. I am available to answer your questions Monday - Friday 9:00 am - 7:00 pm local time in New York.
What if I accidentally enter the wrong address during checkout?
During checkout, it's important that you verify that the address on your order is correct. If your package is mailed to an address verified by the post office but later returned because you moved etc., I will contact you to obtain the correct address. At this point, you will have two options: either purchase additional shipping or place a new order with the correct address. If you choose to place a new order, I will issue a refund for your original order once I have received the payment for your new order.
What do I do if my package is marked as delivered but is missing?
Once a package is marked as delivered by the carrier, it is considered delivered. If your package is marked as "delivered" but you haven’t received it, I recommend taking the following steps:
1. Check with Neighbors: Sometimes packages are left with a neighbor or at an alternate entrance.
2. Contact the Carrier: Reach out to the shipping carrier directly with your tracking number. They often have more specific information and can assist with any delivery issues.
3. Wait a Few Days: Occasionally, packages marked as "delivered" arrive a day or two later. While I can guide you, the shipping carrier is your best contact for locating packages once they’re marked as delivered.

Important notice about Postal Service Delays 2/19/2025
There are currently major delays happening across the postal system. These are due to a mix of staffing shortages, skeleton crews, and severe weather conditions.
What this means for you as a buyer: some packages are not getting scanned in properly, are moving extremely slowly, or even appear to be “stuck in transit” for an extended period.
What I can do about it: I will check the status of your order daily and let you know if there appears to be a delay. I will monitor the situation and provide updates to you as I get them
