About this Product
Set of 9 Fir Turning Blanks 6" Long by Approximately 1.5" in Diameter
These blanks were cut from a section of what I believe to be a vintage wood closet rod. They came from someone that tore down old houses and sold the lumber. The rods appear to have been made from two boards glued together and then rounded. The glue line is solid but does show in the finished turning. Also, I noticed that the blanks were not as round as ones that would be made today. The dark color due to age on the outside of the blanks goes away during turning.
The last picture shows a pizza cutter handle that was turned from a similar blank. I did not have any trouble turning it.
These blanks are a good example of older wood that can be up cycled or recycled into a useful product.
