About this Product

*Do you have more sock yarn than square footage in your home, but not nearly enough time to knit it all? *Did you try to learn how to make socks once, but those needles were so small! And they just take forever! *Do you like making fun, patterned socks, but can’t stand plain vanilla? This listing is for a sock tube, custom-knit for you. These tubes are perfect for afterthought everything socks! These tubes come in either 72 or 60 stitches per row, and the width of the tube will vary depending on the type of yarn used and the length of the stitches (usually I get a gauge of between 8 and 9 stitches per inch for most sock/fingering weight yarns). Here’s how it works: * Send me a convo, and we’ll sort out details. I’ll make a custom order and you buy it. Pricing will vary, but my general rule of thumb is: $5 - gauge tube (When you knit, you swatch. When I crank, I make a gauge tube) If I’ve used the particular brand of sock yarn before, this charge won’t be added. Otherwise, I need to make a gauge tube for each different brand of yarn you want me to crank tubes for. Disclaimer: the gauge tube will take about 25-50 yards of yarn. $8 - 50g ball/skein/cake $12 - 100g ball/skein/cake $15 - “Deluxe” version (two equal sock tubes, waste yarn marking where the afterthought heel will go). Not necessary, but super helpful! This is what I use to make afterthought socks for me and my own *You send me yarn. If you don’t have yarn yet, might I suggest this awesome yarn dyer I know? *wink* All of my sock yarn listings now have an option to come cranked into a sock tube. *I do my magic *Post office does its magic *You receive a fabulous sock tube/tubes, ready for you to turn into warm comfy socks. You’ll also get some basic instructions on how to knit an afterthought heel (cuffs and toes, you’re on your own). Method: All my socks are hand-cranked on my antique circular sock knitting machine, a finicky little beast I call Cecil, and finished by hand. Care: As directed on yarn label. Tips for longer-lasting socks: These socks should last you a couple of years with fairly average use. Most likely they should last longer, I've got handmade wool socks that are several years old and still going strong, but a couple of years is a fairly conservative estimate on my part. If you're concerned about your socks lasting and want to keep them around for longer, there are a few things you can try: *Hand-wash with wool wash (shampoo will also work in a pinch!) and dry flat *Only wash your socks every other wearing (maybe air them out at night?) *Don't wear your socks around the house without slippers or shoes on as well (the friction between your socks and the carpet can cause extra wear and tear) *Take good care of your feet (Keep your toenails trimmed, folks!) *Don't let your cats play with your socks All my socks are made in a smoke-free environment with cats, although the kitties are silent partners and don't actually help with the sockmaking process. Some color differences between photos and actual socks may exist.
