Meet the Maker

The simple box has more than six pieces of wood and two hinges.

Each box is a puzzle waiting to be solved. Some boxes have been designed for years, and minor improvements have been made.

The recipe boxes were designed to have about one inch of the card exposed so that you can sort through the cards to find the one you are looking for. The wooden partition keeps cards from falling to the bottom of the box and never being seen again. As there was a demand for more storage, I started designing boxes that would hold up to 1000 cards.

Pencil and crochet hook/knitting needle boxes have had a small cove ramp installed to facilitate rolling off the bottom of the box.

Slide-top boxes have small magnets to hold the lid closed while not being used.

Liner boxes have a liner to increase the storage of the lid.

Every box opens new doors for color and a unique grain pattern. I also have a small machine shop that has allowed me to make many tools and equipment, from a hinge kerf cutter to a box joint machine, along with special-use clamps and jigs.

How it’s Made

The simple box has more than six pieces of wood and two hinges. Each box is a puzzle waiting to be solved. Some boxes have been designed for years, and minor improvements have been made. The recipe boxes were intended to have about one inch of the card exposed to sort through the cards to find the one you are looking for, and the wooden partition is to keep cards from falling to the bottom of the box and never being seen again. The card groove was added to keep cards off the corner top while in use. As there was a demand for more storage, I started designing boxes that would hold up to 1000 cards. Pencil and crochet hook/knitting needle boxes have had a small cove ramp installed to make it easier to roll off the bottom of the box.
