About this Product
These Art Deco-inspired tea candle holders are made from salvaged hackberry wood. Each piece in the set is unique. Two of them have the grain running vertically, and one is horizontal. The sizes vary because parts of the wood were cracked. I had to cut out the cracked bits, and these rectangles are what was left. Leave no scrap behind!
I love the grain of hackberry, with the pale brown and gray giving it an almost weathered look. It's definitely one of my favorites because it's just so different!
Fits 1" diameter tea candle.
Approximate sizes:
Horizontal grain - 2.5 x 2.25" at the base and 3.5" tall
Vertical grain - 2.25 x 2.25" at the base - one is 3.5" tall, the other is 3" tall

Meet the Maker
I inherited my mom's craftiness, and I get a lot of joy from making things!
My current crafty focus is on woodworking and painting. Bringing the two together is especially satisfying. I love making fine woodworking pieces, but I don't shy away from throwing together something rustic using reclaimed wood.
Seasonal items are fun because they give me something new to play with all the time. I can always look forward to the next season if I'm caught in the doldrums. Creating something lovely and useful is my favorite. But it's also nice to just make something pretty.
If you like the style of something but prefer a different color scheme, please don't hesitate to reach out. Custom orders will take more time. But it's worth it to wait a little while for the perfect piece!
How it’s Made
I was working with a salvaged piece of hackberry. The lumber place was going to throw it in the burn pile! It had a lot of cracked parts that needed to be cut out, thus the irregular sizes. I was milling off the rough edges on the table saw when I felt uncomfortable with the cut depth and pulled the wood back. I liked how it looked, so I proceeded to make a kind of radial pattern on one side. Then I made cuts on the adjacent side to match up at the corner. (Carefully!)
This was a bit of an accidental technique, but I love how it looks!
The finish is a simple board butter made with food grade mineral oil and beeswax.
