Meet the Maker

Hello, and welcome to my digital sandbox! I am so happy you found me, and I hope you have as much fun with my creations as I do.

Several years ago, I retired from the corporate world and the big city to a tiny town in Texas. After many years of creating for myself and friends, I decided to supplement my old age income and "go pro." While I have done a lot of graphics and design, I am new to painting and illustrating. I love trying new ways to create, so you may not find just one style here. I started using watercolor a few months ago, and I am enjoying playing with the ways it pairs with digital.

My studio is a mobile tray table in front of my computer. I use physical art supplies like paint and paper, which I sometimes manipulate on my iPad using Procreate or with a graphics program on my computer. I may start with pencil and paper or digitally, and I often go back and forth until I get the look that I have in mind.

I am most happy when I am creating. I hope to keep growing and improving, and I would love for you to come along on this journey. Please be my guest. :)

How it’s Made

I love loose watercolor florals, so I took a swing at doing wildflowers. You can see my failed attempts in the first picture as compared to the winner (IMHO-LOL) in the upper right-hand corner. They are a lot of fun, but not as easy as you would think. I like how the "Texas" came out (second picture). After combining the letterforms with the flag, I used some new texture brushes for the first time, and I think the effect is really cool. The final stage entails combining the artwork and type. The third picture shows the tedious work of deleting the background after the watercolor has been scanned. I consider this a successful experiment, and I will be doing more of these! :)
