About this Product
This is one of our largest and most eye-catching pieces — a bold statement of craftsmanship and style. The detailed bearded skull is carved from white oak, with the hair skillfully stained to create a striking contrast. It is securely mounted on a 1/8" natural log slice, showcasing a stunning multi-colored grain that adds depth and character.
Finished with a subtle satin sheen, this piece balances rugged texture with refined artistry. It’s truly one of our favorites.

Old Man Engineering
Meet the Maker
At Old Man Engineering, we honor the legacy of creative problem-solving and craftsmanship that has been passed down through generations. Founded by a husband-and-wife duo with a passion for building and creating, we specialize in transforming wood, epoxy, and other materials into beautiful, functional works of art.
Our journey began with humble beginnings—raising three kids on a tight budget, where "Old Man Engineering" was more than just a catchphrase. It was a way of life. Our founder's father, who believed in the power of DIY and ingenuity, inspired us to turn what we had into something extraordinary. Whether it was building a custom laser engraver from drawer slides and MDF, or crafting unique home goods from raw materials, we learned to make do and make it well.
Today, we create everything from handcrafted charcuterie boards and dice boxes to intricate 3D art sculptures, each piece a testament to our love of design and craftsmanship. We infuse every project with care, creativity, and a bit of that "Old Man Engineering" spirit—transforming raw materials into something not only functional but beautiful.
At Old Man Engineering, we believe that good design is built from passion, purpose, and a little bit of ingenuity. And that’s exactly what we put into every piece we create.

How it’s Made
Our process begins with selecting wood, often from what is typically considered waste or scrap. We take great pride in transforming rough-cut lumber into beautiful works of art. Once selected, the wood is carefully prepared—planed and squared—to ensure it's ready for the CNC machine.
We then test several pieces to find the perfect contrasting woods that will bring the design to life in this stunning 3D sculpture. The design file is created and meticulously edited to convert the image into a 3D model.
Next, the piece is carved using the CNC machine with precision. After carving, the item undergoes a thorough sanding process—first with a sanding belt, followed by hand sanding. Finally, we finish the sculpture with several coats of lacquer, enhancing its beauty and ensuring a smooth, glossy finish.
