Meet the Maker

Welcome to Twinstars!

When my grandmother taught me to sew as a child, I never imagined one day I would be selling one of a kind handbags and purses. My sewing journey has never been a strait stitch, but more of a meandering pattern that has several stops and starts until a few years ago when I discovered several bag makers on YouTube. I followed along, gave it a shot, and low and behold, I made my first make-up pouch and then a boxy bag, and then a handbag. Soon I was buying patterns, buying vinyl, zippers and hardware to create functional and fun bags.

I have grown a lot in those few years and work to create individual pieces that instill a bit of joy in the user. Using my industrial Sailrite Fabricator sewing machine various materials including vinyl, cotton, and nylon, I spend my weekends creating pieces of wearable art. Each creation varies in length of time to make, and no two items are ever the same.

My handcrafted items are sewn for regular use and quality that can only come from building each item one at a time.

How it’s Made

How it’s Made: My bags are all joyfully crafted over several days. The standard process is to pick the materials, sometimes the hardest part, cut out the pattern, add any interfacing or stabilization and then sew together.

Usually taking 1 - 2 days to cut and sew, the more complicated or intricate the longer the process can take. Almost all bags are sewing on my industrial Sailrite sewing machine in my home studio.

Most common materials used are:

Vinyl - pebbled, smooth, glitter, suede, faux leather, upholstery, patterned, printed, or solid

Water Resistant Canvas - solid or patterned - lightly water resistant, water will bead, but soak into the fabric

Water Proof Canvas - Solid or patterned - water will roll off surface and bead or pool, eventually it will soak in if not wiped away

Waxed Canvas - water resistant cotton canvas treated with wax coating to create a barrier against moisture, dirt, and wear. Does crease and scratch which adds to its charm.

Cotton Woven - 100% cotton, usually printed or dyed.

Nylon Zippers - Various Colors

Hardware - Various colors and sizes
