Meet the Maker

Hello and welcome to my shop!

My name is Marc, and I am the founder, owner, and sole maker at Floating Feather Books & Stationery. As a former English professor, I am passionate about reading, writing, and the creativity they inspire. I first fell in love with bookbinding over a decade ago as an English undergraduate. Since then, I've been making books and experimenting with paper arts any chance I get. All the marbled paper used in my books is handmade, meaning each sheet is unique. My books and paper products are entirely handmade and are designed to spark your creativity. Whether you are looking for a new journal to start your writing your novel in, a sketchbook to unleash your creativity in, or some handmade cards and stationery to help you reconnect with friends and loved ones, Floating Feather Books & Stationery has something for you. I hope you enjoy using my books and paper products as much as I enjoy making them!

How it’s Made

I marbled the paper using a carrageenan size and acrylic paints. Once the papers were dried and pressed, I coated them with a satin varnish to help protect them. Next, I folded the paper into signatures using a bone folder to get nice, tight creases. From there,I sewed the signature together to form the text block, applied some glue and a fabric backing to give it structure.

While the text block dried, I worked on the cover. I covered some binders board with the marbled paper and used light blue book cloth for the spine. I then put the cover under some weights and let it dry for several hours. Once both the text block and the cover were dry, I attached the text block by gluing down the end pages. I then let the book dry under weights for another 24 hours.
