About this Product

This listing is for an 18 inch across hand painted Lazy Susan turntable. The custom painted image is of a Blue Crab is painted among the wild waves. I painted this Lazy Susan in an impressionistic style. The first five pictures above represent this particular listing. The others are other crab Lazy Sues that I have made.
This model Lazy Susan is a favorite at all of the art shows that I attend. No two are exactly alike, so it is truly a unique piece of artwork. I call it, "Art for the Table".

I cut the Lazy Susan's out of 5/8" maple plywood with a jig saw. I then sand, prime, sand some more and finally paint the image on to the wood. After the image has dried, I apply at least two coats of two part epoxy resin. The epoxy resin creates a super hard, durable, waterproof finish. It is reflective like glass. Most people think that they are made from ceramic.

The spinning device is a metal, ball bearing swivel that is meant to hold 500 lbs. and made in the USA. I have not tested this, but I have stood on them and twisted around, so I know it will hold 140 lbs. without a problem. I cover the swivel with another piece of 1/2 inch plywood, and I add felt bumpers to protect your table.

This Lazy Susan is the perfect housewarming gift for the owners of a new beach house. It will work fine, inside or outside. Truly a one of a kind creation that will be cherished conversation piece for years.

I have many other Lazy Susan designs in my shop. I hope you can take a look around, and find something special.

Our Lazy Susans were featured on an episode of Texas Country Reporter. Here is the video:

Meet the Maker

Hi everyone, I am Janet Dineen, a handmade maker of Mosaic Art, Custom House numbers and Lazy Susans. Custom orders are my specialty. Feel free to ask about anything that you  have in mind. Many times, the best ideas come from people like you.

My husband Mike took this picture of me in Mexico last year. Fun wall.

How it’s Made

1. Purchase the Wood.
2. Cut the shape out with a jigsaw.
3. Sand the edges.
4. Route the edges and sand again.
5. Cut out the bottom piece from 1/2" wood.
6. Sand bottom, route and drill the hole for attaching screws
7. Prime all pieces of wood.
8. Attach the two parts together, swivel in middle.
9. Draw, then paint the design
10. Coat with 3 coats of marine varathane
11. Coat with two part epoxy resin. Blow bubbles out with torch. (See video in shop updates)
12. Put lid on, cross fingers and toes for good luck.
13. Hope it came out nice. and we don't need to coat it again.
14. After it dries, we remove the drips from the back, (I call them baubles) with a grinder.
15. The bottom paint is touched up. The piece is signed and dated and wrapped up in a pizza box for shipping.
