Obiandoli Artisan Bags
Meet the Maker
Welcome to Obiandoli (say OH bee AN doe lee), which is a combination of my parents' surnames. I thought it was a good choice for my shop name, since my parents were directly responsible for my love of fabrics and sewing. They started a remnant shop in 1950 that quickly became the largest fabric store in northern NJ - so I literally grew up with fine, quality fabrics and learned to sew when I was about 9 years old. Trust me, that's a LOT of sewing years!
I moved from sewing clothing to creating handbags many years ago, and when Etsy came along...well, it was a no-brainer for me. My first Etsy handbag shop, LauraOhDesigns, opened in 2008. I'm honored that one of my original bags, under that label, was featured in Seaside Home, published by Stash Books in 2012. I closed LauraOhDesigns a few years later to tend to family and relocation. A few years ago, I inherited the sample books and swatch samples from my brother's designer showroom, so I started using them to make the artisan patch bags and others, and Obiandoli Artisan Bags was launched.
When I found Goimagine - I knew I had to be part of this amazing site.
Thanks for taking the time to learn about me and Obiandoli Artisan Bags - and thank you for supporting handmade in the USA.
How it’s Made
I love combining colors, textures and random shapes. The fabrics used in this bag are from sample books and project scraps that were otherwise destined for the landfill. I start with a pile of coordinated sample pieces and start sewing them together until I have enough frankenfabric for the bag. From there the bag is constructed as any other.
All bags are interfaced and lined with reinforced stitching at stress points.
If the bag contains pieces of vinyl or leather - it may not wash or press as well - but instructional tags are included with every bag.
My studio is always smoke free - I'm a nonsmoker and although I do have a small dog, she doesn't like my studio. Too scary! She sleeps in a leather recliner in the next room while I'm working. Tough life.
