About this Product
Invite the wee Brigid’s Bow to the holidays as a gift tie-on, a stocking stuffer, or a tree ornament! An old traditional variation of the St Brigid’s Cross, Brigid's "Bow" version, save with a set 3 for $15.
This smaller version of "Brigid's Bow" (only 5" diagonal) is handmade from reeds, tied with tiny colored bands, and packaged in a square format with narrow ribbon tie and descriptive card. It is smaller and much more airy in design than the most familiar version, which I also carry in this shop. Choose the ribbon color-and use the lovely narrow ribbon it's wrapped with to hang it.
St. Brigid is second only to Patrick in Irish hearts, Her handmade crosses are an ancient tradition, used for protection and as an emblem of hospitality. Here is the less common "Brigid's Bow" variety of cross, associated with Derry and Armagh. Several versions of them are still made in Ireland, and some are quite complex with five or seven "crossings" woven in the center. Like my other Brigid Crosses, I make them from rushes I gather here in coastal RI, and they are presented nicely, ready for gifting!
Share with a favorite hostess, at a shower or housewarming, tie on a gift, put over the kitchen door or keep near a woodstove or fireplace as a traditional blessing and a charm to keep fire, illness and misfortune at bay.
