About this Product

Brown sugar savers are made of terracotta fired clay, which is a porous clay material that absorbs water and maintains dampness. They can be used to keep brown sugar soft for up to 3 months. To use, soak the brown sugar saver in water for 15 minutes, pat it dry, and then tuck inside the brown sugar in a sealed contain. When the sugar begins to harden, re-soak the brown sugar saver for 15 minutes, pat it dry, and use it again. Just repeat the process as needed.

INSTRUCTIONS Soak the terracotta sugar saver in water for 15 minutes. Pat it dry to prevent sugar sticking to its surface. Place it on top of the brown sugar and store it in an airtight container. When sugar begins to harden, repeat above the process. * Rinse the terracotta sugar saver with water only.

ALTERNATIVE USES You can also use a brown sugar saver to keep things dry! Dry terracotta is very absorbent, making it highly useful for absorbing excess or unwanted moisture and keeping things dry and even crispy. To use a brown sugar saver dry, just bake it in your oven at 200°F for 5-10 minutes to ensure it’s bone-dry. Allow it cool completely before using. Can be used multiple times in this format as well. Just some of the things this method can be used for: Baked Goods White Sugar Marshmallows Fresh Herbs Breads Dried Fruits Spices Pet Food Keep in mind that some food items, including marshmallows, cookies, and dried fruit, will fare better if they don’t make direct contact with the sugar saver by placing the sugar saver in the middle and the cookies or marshmallows around them.

If you are a potter and would like to make your own cute shaped brown sugar savers to choose from our shaped stamp and cutter collection.

Our sugar savers can also be use as an aromatherapy diffuser. Simply put a couple of drop of essential oils on the terracotta and enjoy the benefits. WARNING once you have used a sugar saver with essential oils it may no longer safe to be used with food.

How it’s Made

The first step in the creation of a Sugar Saver is to roll out a slab of terracotta low fire clay.

We then use stamps and cutters we 3D print in house to cut out the sugar saver and imprint the design in the clay. Then after allow the clay to dry for several days we put the sugar savers in the kiln to fire to over 1800 degrees and cool for severals hours. This firing a cooling process takes roughly 24 hours depending on several factors.

Once the they have cooled we then bag the sugar saver along with instructions on their use. They are ready to send to their new home where they will be loved and used for years to come.

Our complete line of Sugar Savers are handmade in the United States in East Tennessee near Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Our sugar savers come in a wide variety of styles and themes to appeal to many tastes.
