Meet the Maker

I've been around this small world going on 73 plus years, have been working for myself most of those years. From my first business as a kid living in rural New Jersey selling rags to my neighbors to starting a worm farm. Yep a worm farm collecting earthworms and selling them in small Chinese food containers near the highway to Spring and Summer fishermen... of course I did the usually grass cutting and lawn upkeep for the city folk who came to the near by lakes and their summer homes.

I went to cosmetology school and had my own shop for a time, went to worked for Glemby International. Then the Etheria/Norell division of Revlon under the great Hal Oakley for a number of years, training counter staff on how to apply trending make-up looks in NYC's big five 5th Avenue department stores (now mostly gone .. how sad). Anyway after a friend was shot 3 times after leaving a night club, I joined NYPPD where I became a Sergeant shortly before I left. I opened a retail copy/graphics center with a friend which in turn became the first all Apple Computer Dealership offering a high end publishing and graphics center in NYC. Went to Japan on behalf of Apple Computers to introduce desktop publishing introduction to Apple Kanji language system to the Mitani Corporation, Apple's new dealership there.

I came back and did some freelance management for companies in the El-Hi (educational textbook marked) before opening my own graphic design business down in the printing district of NYC near Canal and Hudson Streets. The attack on the World Trade Center in 2011 ended that business. I moved on to manage a rather popular watering hole/bar in Greenwich village for a friend of mine while I was planning a new business. The bar thing lasted for about 9 months and then I opened a bookstall (I love books and reading) on the Upper West Side of Manhattan on Broadway near Lincoln Center. Very similar to the ones in Paris, along the Seine River. I sold books while I was still working towards building up a costume design business that become A.J. Winkies & Co.. I was always designing and making costumes for fancy dress and like events; like Halloween Parade, Cosplay and the Mermaid Parades so thats where I decided to migrate my business efforts towards...

I called it A.J. Winkies & Co., the. name came from my best friend's first name (Judi Bendel) (I miss her greatly she passed away some 6 years ago) and mine. Coupled with the name of a character from one of my favorite movies 'The Wizard of OZ,' Winkies was the name of the Wicked Witch of the West's Guards. The Co. part is for my cats always part of my life. Any way one thing lead to another selling my costume designs on Esty and eBay then adding sewing patterns to my list of items in late 2016... and we now arrive to today....

So there you have it a really short poorly written version of the crazy world I have lived....

PS: I left out a great many things but I did not want to bore you to death I felt this was too much as it is....
