Meet the Maker
New Puppy = New Business
In September of 2023 the cutest littler of heeler/hound puppies was born at a friend’s farm. I knew right away that I wanted the one cute little male puppy in the litter and rather than asking my husband if I could have one, I asked him to name the little cutie. Being a Hot Wheels fanatic we agreed on Johnny Lightning. He joined our family in November of 2023 and has been a joy to have since then. Being a creative person, I started making things for him right away. Bows, bandanas, beds, and more. You name it, I was making it for him. It didn’t take long for the house to get overrun with pet items. In May 2024 we desided that Johnny needed a paymate so we went back to our friends farm and addopted a second Heeler/Hound puppy. We kept with the toy car theme and named this one Matchbox.
Having started Andrea Thomas Designs in 2012 I already had an Etsy shop that has had success over the years. After running some tests at a few shows, the decision was made. It was time to open a second shop and start selling our pet supplies. With our little pup (ok not so little now) in tow we started on our journey to Heeler and Hound. Slowly we are building up the business and adding new things to it as we come up and test new items.
All our items are handcrafted in our home and tested by not only Johnny and Matchbox, but our cat Martin, our senior small mix breed dog Minnie, and many of our 4-legged friends. I want to ensure all our products are safe along with being cute and fashionable. I have access to a lot of dogs and our products in many different situations to ensure they are safe for all animals. For example, our bows evolved from having elastic, to one piece of Velcro, to now they have 2 pieces of Velcro on each bow. We learned that Velcro was safer due to pets rough play and at times fights, as it can come off when things get out of hand.
How it’s Made
Our Bows, Bandanas, and Waste Bag Holders:
We source much of our cotton fabric from local mom-and-pop quilt shops throughout the Midwest. The body of the bows are assembled by machine along with the Velcro attached by machine. We use a double-sided Velcro and make sure the soft side is always facing your pets skin so there is no irritation. If the Velcro is to long for your pets collar cut it to length, we keep it a bit longer so it will fit a variety of collar sizes. We use a rubber band in the center to hold the bow shape and hand stitch the centers to the bow and close them up. If the bow becomes a bit off center, gently pull on the top or bottom of each side to re-center it.
Our Kennel Mats:
We use a high-quality fleece or flannel for the outside of all our kennel mats. As soon as we bring the fleece home, we wash it in a solution that will remove the water wicking properties of the fabric. This allows it to absorb any moisture spilt on the mat. I use two layers of fleece or one layer of fleece and a layer of flannel for all our mats. In between the layers I use a layer of U-Hall recyclable furniture mat. This makes the kennel mats super absorbent and fast drying. When out and about with our own pups we use these mats. When they have an accident or spill their water, the mats pull the water away fast leaving the top dry and comfortable for them to lay on all day.
All our items are tested by our whole testing team; Johnny (heeler/hound), Matchbox (heeler/hound), Martin (orange cat), Minnie (small dog mix), Linc (black lab/great dane mix), and our many friends. If we don’t feel safe letting our own dogs play, wear, or use something we won’t sell it. I only want the best for my 4-legged babies and you should too.

Care instructions
All our items are machine washable and tumble try on low as needed. We wash ours when I wash their bedding, if they need them. As they are not an all day evey day item they dont get washed very often.
How soon will I get my items?
All our items are shipped within 1 to 2 business days of your order. If you live in the Twin Cities area we are more than willing to meet up with you in a public place so you can pick up your orders. If you live in the River Falls, WI area or one of the surounding areas, we are in two atleease one day a week for farmers market. We will gladly bring your order with us so you can pick it up from us there.
We do NOT ship on the weekends normally as we reserve those for family time with both our 2 legged and 4 legged friends and family. We always provide you with a tracking number so you can follow your package and ship it in plain envelopes, so it won’t attract attention. With that said, Heeler and Hound will not be held responsible for postal service errors. We wish we had that kind of control, but unfortunately, we do not. Thank you for understanding. We have seen delays in shipping across the board (no matter who you ship with), and we ourselves are affected by this for some of our supplies. We feel your pain and are just as frustrated as you.
Can I cancel or return my order?
Any order can be canceled with in 24 hours or before it is shipped. Once and order is shipped you have 30 days from the delivery date to return it, just let us know ASAP. Buyer is responsible for return shipping costs and any loss in value if an item isn't returned in original condition. Once the order is returned to us we will issue your refund.

Heeler and Hounds does not collect or retain any buyer personal information. While we are provided with your name and address, we do not use that information for anything other than to ship your package. We also do not sell your information to anyone. Do you make any bows or bandana's for cats?
While we do a lot for of our items for dogs, our xx-small - small sizes work for you kitty cats. Our cat Martin wears an x-small bow or bandana when I can get him to sit still for it.
Are your accessories safe for my pet?
Johnny and Machbox both wear a bow or a bandana when they are playing with their friends, but we do watch them closly. We do not advise your pet to wear them at night or when they are sleeping. Before we sell any of our styles, we do test them. Between Johnny and Matchbox, their siblings, and all their friends; all of our designs/styles are thoroughly tested by a large group of puppies.
