About this pattern: Carrie Chapman Catt (1859-1947) was president of the National American Woman Suffrage Association (NAWSA) from 1900-1904 & again from 1915-1920, during which time she lead the push for he passage of the 1917 New York state Woman Suffrage referendum, and the passage of the 19th Amendment to the US Constitution. Under Catt’s leadership NAWSA became the League of Women Voters which is still active in voter education & registration drives to this day.
