How it’s Made

Each hook begins as a 3/4" round piece of steel. The stem of the hook is isolated from the parent bar using a tool called a "butcher", and forged into a square taper. The base is forged in an "upsettting die" (which is basically a heavy steel plate with a hole drilled through it). The base is refined by hand, then the hook is forged. After the piece has cooled, the mounting holes are drilled. The piece is then reheated, wire brushed, and a hot application of boiled linseed oil is applied.
