About this Product

Amongst Celtic peoples the horse has always been highly venerated and seen as a prized possession. Horses were viewed as status symbols, treated with great respect, treasured, and well cared for. There was a great bond between Celts and their horses. In historical Celtic literature, mythology, and art the horse is a potent symbol which takes on supernatural dimensions. Perhaps one of the best known of the Celtic deities associated with horses is the goddess Epona. She is seen as a protector of horses, donkeys, and mules. She is the only Celtic god that was also worshipped in Rome. Then there is the magnificent horse Enbarr of the Flowing Mane associated with the great Celtic Sea god Manannán mac Lir. He features in Irish, Scottish, and Manx mythology and is Cognate with Manawydan fab Llŷr in Wales.

Meet the Maker

I'm a huge fan of history and archeology. I'm fascinated and inspired by ancient metal-smiths and incorporate ancient Celtic, Pict or Norse patterns in my work. I'm excited to blend my skills into a wearable interpretation of Celtic art.

How it’s Made

Each item begins as a piece of sheet metal, copper, bronze, brass or nickel. After a pattern is transferred to the metal, the piece is etched in a salt-water solution. Each piece is hand cut, sanded, and polished. A patina may be applied or it may be hand painted with dye oxide. A clear polymer coating is applied
