About this Product
Feel like royalty with one these handwoven chainmail necklaces! We have three designs, each with their own substantial personality, yet all are surprisingly lightweight thanks to aluminum rings. The first one, inspired by New Orleans and Mardi Gras, features a brass Fleur de Lis hanging from a chain of purple and gold links. The second has red, silver, and blue rings with an abalone shell heart, which gives it a "4th of July on the Beach" vibe. Last, but certainly not least, is Andrew's most complicated design to date. Black and silver rings are cleverly woven together to cage bicolor beads in red & orange and green & yellow. These cages are linked together with golden rings, and they all come together with an elegant silvertone and black pendant. All three have a large swiveling lobster claw clasp, with an antique brass finish for the caged beads and silvertone for the Fleur de Lis and abalone heart . Despite their lightweight nature, aluminum rings are durable enough to stand up to normal daily wear-and-tear (and they're just about the easiest thing to fix if something does come undone). Stephen has been threatening to learn how to make chainmail for years, but until he does these designs will remain one-of-a-kind. The cross design (pictured with the caged beads) is not available, as Andrew decided to reclaim it.
Stephen says, "Complicated is right! I had to fix that design once when Andrew wasn't available, and it took me 2 days to figure out how to make the cages hold together!"

Meet the Maker
Beth Ann Borth, Owner & Lead Designer
My jewelry making journey started with making a “grandkids” birthstone necklace for my mom in ‘09. Then came angel birthstone necklaces for my sister and sisters-in-law. The odd bracelet here, a couple pairs of earrings there. In 2017 my younger son, Stephen, convinced me to try to make it a business. He jumped in making gemstone jewelry, and my older son, Andrew, followed weaving chainmail rings. And so Angelic Relics & Modern Treasures was born. The “relics” portion of our name comes from the fact we like to take broken jewelry, weird estate pieces, or things that were never meant to be jewelry, and turn them into unique new jewelry pieces. We had a good couple years run, but pandemic schedules and Andrew striking out on his own meant we had to shelve the business. Schedules have finally shifted back, so we redesigned our logo, dropped the last half of our name, and launched a new online store. Thanks for checking us out!
How it’s Made
Materials used: aluminum, abalone, glass, brass, silvertone components, antique brass-finished components.
What is abalone shell?
Abalone is a type of sea snail found in cold water worldwide. It's often eaten as a delicacy, particularly around the Pacific Ocean. The shells (AKA pāua shell) are thick and highly iridescent, usually showing patches of blue, pink, green, yellow, gold, black, or bronze over a silvery base. This makes it ideal for carving and jewelry. Like clams, abalone can sometimes produce natural pearls, but unfortunately they don't survive the process to produce cultured pearls.
