About this Product

Cheese cutting made fast and easy!

  • The boards are made from different combinations of exotic and domestic hardwoods: oak, walnut, purple heart, maple, padauk, and sapele.

  • These are side grain boards, and will stand up better to the occasional use of a knife than boards using a face grain surface

  • Most are one of a kind

  • Boards are approximately 6" X 9"

  • Chrome Hardware

  • Rubber feet on the bottom for stability

  • Finished with food-safe mineral oil. (You will need to refresh the finish from time to time. You can get mineral in lots of stores.)

  • These boards are meant to be cleaned with a wash cloth. Although they are made with a waterproof glue, they should not stay submerged in dishwater or placed in a dishwasher.

Meet the Maker

Robb and Kathy Blanchette live in southwest Wisconsin.

Kathy has been crafting most of her adult life. It is not unusual to find her painting something almost any time of the day or night in her she-shed. She does placques, wall hangings, ornaments, etc... Often Kathy goes to her craft room without a definite plan, just inspiration.

Robb is relatively new to woodworking. In 2019 he went to the woodshop at an RV park to make a shelf for their camper. That's all it took. Since then Robb has been honing his woodworking skills, making anything from a porch swing, to jewelry boxes--even Kathy's she-shed.

Robb and Kathy occasionally combine their talents and make things together. When they collaborate, Robb builds and Kathy paints. This summer they will be focusing on bird houses with cute animal features.

How it’s Made

A lot of the work behind making any type of board is choosing combinations and placement of different species of wood. Once that is done, the boards are glued together with a waterproof glue. After drilling a hole for the hardware and cutting a groove for the wire, the sanding begins. I like to sand it smooth and then spray a coat of water onto the board. This lifts the grain and makes it feel rough again. Then it's time for the final sanding. (This extra step ensures the grain doesn't rise up when you wash it.)

A couple of coats of mineral oil, followed by the installation of the rubber feet and the cutting hardware, and there's nothing left but to enjoy your new cheese cutter.
