About this Product
During the Civil War, there was little money to be found for toys. So the women made dolls for the children out of handkerchiefs or fabric scraps. If the handkerchief had belonged to a loved one who was away, the doll helped to ease the pain of separation. Known as church dolls because they provided a quiet toy during services and were silent when dropped. Each doll is handmade from either a handkerchief or a cloth napkin. Some of the handkerchiefs are vintage and may have stains or small flaws.
