About this Product

The photos are of a past coffee table that has been completed and sold. I offer a service to create a coffee table for you as described below. Every work is unique due to the nature of the available slabs, materials and variances in hand tool marks and such.

The small coffee table in the photos featured curves proportioned to the golden ratio of the Fibonacci sequence to produce a natural look. The top is a cherry slab joined among walnut and maple bent laminations. There are over 100 lamination hand bent into these beautiful curves.

This piece was approximately 18.5" Tall X 36" Long X 16" Wide as requested by the client.

Commissioned Coffee Table Steps

Step 1. You start by ordering here or contacting me through my website Vansantwoodwork.com to commission a piece for you. I need to know: what it is your looking for, what your budget/price range is, and how soon you would like it.

Step 2. I roughly sketch by hand what it is we are making with your inspirations and musts. What must it be able to do? What stylistic choices do you admire? These are very basic drawings and simply capture the overall idea as a starting point. You may wish to follow my Pinterest to look through the different types of furniture or artwork. They make great visual aids to start your design. You can also leave it to me to design a unique item with your musts in mind. Note: Serious inquires only please. I cannot make chairs out of marshmallows, in case you were wondering.

Step 3. You like one of the ideas as your commissioned piece. I will send you a Google Sketchup link of the piece and quote what it would cost for me to build it in my small home based studio. This is a more descriptive and detailed design that will allow us to make specifications.

Step 4. Your ready to move forward with the purchase. I will send you a specifications sheet with detailed information about your piece as well as a purchase agreement that lays out our entire agreement. See shop policies below as a rough guideline.

Step 5. You purchase the piece on a page very similar to this one at the agreed upon price. It is shipped to you or delivered within my delivery radius for local PA transactions. See my delivery radius here.

Step 6. Enjoy! I love seeing happy clients enjoying their piece. Seeing happy families enjoy my work and reading their positive reviews is why I joined the handmade movement. Thank you!

If you have any questions about this item, just hit the “Contact Maker” below and I will get back to you. Also see "Shop Policies" below. The $1 will go toward your piece should you move forward here.

Meet the Maker

My journey into fine art began with a deep-rooted passion instilled by my dad. He taught me the value of pursuing dreams relentlessly. My ancestors were boat builders or shipwrights near rock island in Chicago (Article here)

I developed my skills after I received a fine arts degree, moving across the country with my wife. I first gained experience in Boulder, Colorado with a local decor and shade company. Then moved to Burlington, Vermont to learn from masters in the craft of fine woodworking. There I completed a Fine Woodworking Certification Program. While attending, I was simultaneously working as a team lead in another decor company.

My wife, two sons, and I now live in Pennsylvania where I started my professional shop in the Pocono Mountains near Little Gap, PA.

I have always wanted to make this world of ours an even better place with my work. This is why I joined Goimagine as well as contribute to the Arbor Day Foundation.

If you live in PA, I offer additional services that can be found on my website: Vansantwoodwork.com

Shop Policies

In order for things to run smoothly I have a few shop policies you should be aware of:

  1. You may always contact me via the contact maker button or through my website Vansantwoodwork.com to make a custom work for you.

  2. I own all rights to the furniture designs I send to you. Any sketches, Google Sketchup designs, or pieces cannot be replicated without my written approval.

  3. Regarding premade items: 30 day refunds acceptable. The buyer pays return shipping costs. If the product is not received in its original condition, the buyer is responsible for any loss in value.

  4. Regarding large custom furniture: Many shops offer no refunds and I feel that is not fair. But frankly, it is not possible on a small scale to offer full refunds either. I offer 50% refunds on custom orders that are returned to me in good condition.

  5. I take great care to make crates and ship to you. Should you receive your piece in poor condition, you must notify me within 24 hours of receipt, or it is deemed to have been received in acceptable condition.

  6. Every custom piece I make involves a signed specifications page and agreement from you before any work shall commence. If I do not receive the agreement from you, I will refund what you may have paid and cancel the order.
