Meet the Maker
Most days you can find me in my home studio AKA "my happy place" I was born with a passion to create. I have been designing and creating jewelry for almost 30 years. I love vendor shows as well as selling online. I attended Jewelry Fabrication classes at the Toledo Museum of Art for several years which started me on my metalsmithing journey. A couple of years ago I discovered metal clay and immediately fell in love with this unique and versatile medium. Quite frankly, I am obsessed! I often create pieces using metalsmithing techniques in my metal clay pieces.
As an artisan jewelry maker, my focus is on creating high-quality pieces that reflect my attention to detail and craftsmanship. I carefully choose my materials and take the time to creatively design and execute each piece, focusing on the finishing touches, that makes a piece of jewelry stand out. I truly love creating pieces that my customers will love.
How it’s Made
I created these earrings using Copper Metal Clay and a wonderful texture sheet to compliment the pattern of the abalone shell beads.
About Metal Clay
I made these earrings with Metal Clay. Metal clay is a type of clay that is made from metal particles mixed with a binder. It can be molded and shaped like regular clay, but when it is fired in a kiln, the binder burns away and the metal particles fuse together creating a piece of pure metal jewelry, in this case, pure copper earrings.
The basic techniques I use with metal clay involve three different states:
Soft Clay techniques: I use different methods of shaping the soft clay which includes cutting, texturing, molding, and embellishments.
Dry Clay techniques: Also called the greenware stage. This is where I start the pre-finishing process which includes sanding, carving, and creating openings for rivets and eyelets.
Finishing techniques: After the piece has been fired and cooled the finishing process begins. This could include sanding, polishing, burnishing, and sometimes adding patina to certain pieces.
My end goal is always to create high-quality jewelry that my customers will love.
