Meet the Maker
I’ve been a Maker since I was a young child. I remember rushing to finish my worksheets in 1st grade so I could draw and color. My parents engaged my creativity with origami books, watercolor sets, sketch pads, beads and yarn. I was, and am, surrounded by women who love fiber arts. My Grandma gifted me a stamped cross-stitch square and embroidery floss. My Granny crocheted dozens of afghans of all sizes. My Mom indulged my clumsy attempts at making my own clothing on a Singer Genie. My best friend and I explored crochet and quilting. My godmother showed me how to knit, but I could never get the hang of it! During college I majored in Visual Art Education with a concentration in Fiber Arts.
I continue to explore different mediums - watercolor paint, embroidery, jewelry making and polymer clay. I’ve created original and published original crochet patterns (a collection of crochet plant patterns and holiday gnomes).
I sell online through Abby Farmer Creations.
I live in Dallas, Texas with my husband, Phil and our fur-babies, Duncan & Cassie. I’ve been a member of Wycliffe since 2005 and work as the Canvas administrator for Dallas Int’l University.
How it’s Made
This crochet cactus pattern collection came about during the long hours we were stuck at home during the pandemic. I began sketching different plants, experimenting with amigurumi techniques and flipping through crochet stitch dictionaries. I gleefully purchased dozens of green yarns in different weights, fiber combinations, textures and colors. (YARN!) Each pattern was tested by skilled crocheters and improved based on their feedback. I am excited to share this collection and hope it brings you many hours of joyful creativity.
