About this Product
You're looking at a three dimensional cross made of exotic and domestic hardwoods. I have different combinations available, but this particular cross is made of wenge, oak, and bubinga.
It measures 12" inches tall and 7" across. The outer layer is 1/4 inch thick, the middle layer is 1/2 inch thick, and the center layer is 3/4 inch thick. It is finished with a satin polyurethane. There is a keyhole slot in the back for securely hanging the cross on a screw.

Meet the Maker
Robb and Kathy Blanchette live in southwest Wisconsin.
Kathy has been crafting most of her adult life. It is not unusual to find her painting something almost any time of the day or night in her she-shed. She does placques, wall hangings, ornaments, etc... Often Kathy goes to her craft room without a definite plan, just inspiration.
Robb is relatively new to woodworking. In 2019 he went to the woodshop at an RV park to make a shelf for their camper. That's all it took. Since then Robb has been honing his woodworking skills, making anything from a porch swing, to jewelry boxes--even Kathy's she-shed.
Robb and Kathy occasionally combine their talents and make things together. When they collaborate, Robb builds and Kathy paints. This summer they will be focusing on bird houses with cute animal features.
How it’s Made
Lots of time, patience, cutting, gluing, sanding, and finishing went into the creation of these crosses.
A special miter saw sled needed to be created to safely cut the smaller components at a 45 degree angle, After sanding all the pieces, there are a total of 9 glue joints, each taking a day to dry. There are also 3 coats of polyurethane. Each coat adds another day. The last detail is the keyhole slot for secure haning on a screw. This requires a special router bit and a jig I created to make sure the slot is centered and straight.
