About this Product

This beautiful Canvas Floating Frame in made from Curly Maple Hardwood. The grain pattern in Curly Maple retains a darker hue to give it that wow effect. There is no other wood that shows off it's grain as beautiful as Curly Maple. The canvas art piece that I made from a photograph I took of a Lost Train Station in Trilby Florida. The Train Station was set to be demolished when someone decided to save it and picked it up and moved it to an outside museum in Dade City , Florida, it was a perfect preservation of history.

Meet the Maker

The Maple Tiger was the best way to describe my woodworking business and the work I do as a woodworker. Maple Wood has been left behind in the woodworking industry, I think because of all the exotic woods that has been flooded into our country over the past 30 years. All the domestic woods except walnut has been put aside, so to speak. I have always loved maple wood, there are so many subspecies of Maple if you get tired of one just switch to a different one. With different technics you can alter the appearance easely , I like that ability to change the way Maple wood can look different it allows me to be more creative,

Maple wood has many subspecies that can be stunning to the eyes, some examples are Tiger Maple, Curly Maple, Ambrosia Maple, Birdseye Maple, Quilted Maple, Sycamore Maple and the list goes on. There is no end on how to finish these maples, so the creativity can keep on expanding. I still make some projects with other woods, it's just maple is my favorite.

Working with wood more than 40 years I come to appreciate our domestic woods the most, not saying the other types of woods aren't good it's just what I prefer to work with. I have loved building clocks for over 30 years and I'll continue to build them as long as I can. The different home Decor projects that I build gives my mind time to be more creative and to experiment with ideals, well I hope that I have explained a little about myself, so now you know why I use so much Maple wood.

How it’s Made

This Frame is made from 1/2" Curly Maple wood. It has been dyed several times with a custom color and then applied Danish oil to help pop the grain. I then applied 4 coats of Satin Poly and sanded to a 1500 grit sandpaper to create a smooth finish. The frame is 12" x 15" 3" deep.
