2020…what a year to start a small business!

Still newlyweds in Fort Worth, Texas when the world celebrated a new decade, we bought a tabletop laser and launched Walnut Design Co., named after our loyal mascot and beloved doxiepoo Walnut. As it turned out, that was a brilliant (if un-planned) “work from home” strategy for that historic year! Featured on our initial Etsy store, our creations centered on items aligned with our interests and the tools we had on hand…we made baby announcements, game related merchandise and small home décor items. Those early days were full of excitement and promise, but also lessons-learned around marketing, customer relationships and new product development.

2021…let the expansion begin!

As the awareness and orders grew, we invested in a much larger laser and a CNC router. Although these items have effectively transformed our small home into something resembling a chaotic Santa’s Workshop, they allowed us to develop a wider range of offerings in a varity of new mediums, while maintaining a 5-star rating across 2,000 orders! Then - as the year came to a close, we welcomed our beautiful baby girl into the world…and life got a whole lot more interesting!

Since expanding our family, we have continued to grow the business as well, developing custom board game accessories, a wide range of personalized keepsakes, birth announcements, puzzles, quirky home décor items and even a line of personalized jewelry. Most recently, we launched our own website, where we continue to offer lovingly-made items and attentive customer service, all designed to celebrate life’s special moments.
