About this Product

Original Pet Portrait or Wild Animal Watercolor Paintings - Made to Order

Small paintings will be painted on artist grade, 100% cotton, 140lb cold press paper. (If you prefer 300lb, please convo me for pricing.) The dimensions shown are for the cut size of the paper. Available painting sizes are: 5” x 7”, 8” x 10”, and 9" x 12". (Larger sizes may be available but will need to be quoted.)  All of my watercolor paintings will have a margin around the painting that can allow for framing.  The shipping for the larger paintings may be more and they will need to be shipped in a tube with insurance.

This listing is for one original watercolor custom painted from a high quality photo provided by the client. This is for a single animal painting. Additional animals may be extra depending upon the composition and detail required. My style combines realistic elements with loose, flowing color. (Please note, I do not paint hyper-realistic watercolors.)

Your painting will be unframed and unmatted. Watercolors need to be framed behind glass (preferably with a mat) and displayed away from sunlight to prevent fading. They will not be sealed with spray fixative.

Shipping:

I will ship USPS. I prefer Priority Mail. If possible, I may use a shipping tube (which is safer) but then the painting will be rolled. However, stiffer surfaces will not allow that, and in which case, the painting will be sent as securely as possible.  If you want a different service, please convo me before paying and I will set up a custom listing.

How it works:

I ask that anyone interested in a custom painting, send me a convo with your needs and a high resolution digital photo of the animal. You should hold the intellectual property rights to the photo. You are granting me the right to use it as a source for the artwork. All commission work must be paid for in advance. I will do a 50%/50% split for larger pieces - half before work begins and half upon completion. You will be sent a digital copy (with watermarks) to proof. If you do not approve the artwork, I will do what I can to meet your expectations. Since I do work full time and have a family, it may take 2-4 weeks for custom work to be completed. Large pieces will take longer. I may need to order the paper (1-2 weeks to receive) and then will begin work. Therefore, please plan on two months lead-time for larger pieces, just in case. Once the painting is completed, any remaining balance must be paid before shipping. Commissions are not returnable/not refundable.

Quality Guarantee:

I use only artist grade supplies and surfaces. All paper will be artist grade and archival. I will send you a proof to approve the painting before you make the final payment.

Copyright:

Please note that I reserve the right to display copies of my work done on commission as part of my portfolio and listings. I retain copyright of the "artwork." You will receive an original work of art. I will not post any photos of any commission work on social media until after it has shipped to the client. If you prefer to keep all images private, you must convo me in advance. My work is not for the client's commercial use.

Meet the Maker

My name is Renee Campbell and I'm an artist. It took me a long time to say that. It was easier to use the words "crafty," "crafter," or "artistic." So I was the "artsy crafter" in the room. Being an ARTIST seemed like something unattainable or reserved for those people who formally studied art and have claimed "Artist" as their profession. That is something that I would love to do...live as an artist. However, I have an 8-5 job to help support our family. Creating is something that I need to do, on the other hand.

I am officially self-taught. Aren't we all, really? We explore and we learn. I have not learned in isolation; I have watched videos and read tutorials. I have learned from others in a remote and distant way. The few classes in art instruction that I have taken never seemed to move at the right pace for me. I was always behind in practice, or bored with the theory.

What you see in my shop are what I love to do...explore the light, shadow, color, and form of animals and people. I enjoy multiple media from graphite to watercolor to block printing. I hope to have some of each available in my store. Commissions are limited to pencil and charcoal right now.

I live in the heart of New Hampshire. I am fortunate to see beautiful mountains in the distance on a regular basis and lakes up close, every day. I love the wildlife and beauty of the Lakes Region. #nhartist

FAQs:

Custom and personalized orders

Yes, I do accept commissions. I will do pet portrait, wildlife, individual person portrait commissions. The client should provide a high resolution image with a clear view of the subject in the orientation that would best resemble the final artwork.

Sizing details

The size for each drawing or painting will be listed in the details. If you have any questions, please ask.

Are the drawing/paintings in your shop ready to ship?

All paintings that are ready to ship will be indicated in the description. Some listings are for commissioned or made-to-order pieces.

What type of paints do you use?

I paint in artist grade watercolor, gouache, and acrylic. I occasionally paint with inks, pastels and colored pencil. All of my materials are artist grade.

Where are you located?

I live in the heart of New Hampshire in the Lakes Region, of NH.

How do you ship? Will you ship UPS?

I ship USPS, first class for small items, and Priority Mail for commissions and larger paintings. UPS is available upon request.

What's the difference between Made-to-Order and Custom Commissions for your shop?

"Made-to-Order" is interchangeable with "A Custom Commission" in this shop. Subject images are provided by the customer.

When will I get my order?

Each listing states the "turn-around" time from purchase to shipping. For pre-made items, it is typically, 1-3 business days for me to pack and ship (hand the package to the post office). The transit time for shipping doesn't start until after the 1-3 business days for the package to be received by the USPS. For custom orders (portraits and paintings), you may see 2-3 weeks production time listed on the product page. That may be the amount of time it takes me to create the artwork and does not necessarily include the correspondence between the buyer and artist to get reference photos or answer questions. Some paints may need curing (for example, oils and acrylics need extra drying time before being varnished and packed for shipping). So, please plan accordingly if you are commissioning a gift portrait.
