About this Product
Leather necklace with dove feathers, seashells, and white quartz from the desert. Glued with e-6000, very strong. Feathers don't move. Can also be worn upside down as a crown on the forehead, very beautiful. Leather ties are 16 inches, each one.

Meet the Maker
Welcome to Desertfyre Arts! I am a 43 year old self taught artist. Here at my home in Wellington, Utah, I am nearly constantly creating something. Handmade jewelry with wire-wrapped stones, acrylic paintings, wall hangings and necklaces with feathers...
I try to put a little bit of the nature around me in this high elevation desert into everything I create. I love finding rocks and wood pieces that I would like to have to remind me of the desert and make something out of them for people to cherish. I always love to see these little beautiful things around on the ground in the places I go, and I collect them. I know other people do it too! So I thought why not make them into something wearable? Most of my jewelry is made with found objects.
I also make visual art --acrylic, marker, water soluble, soft pastel, ink, mixed media-- on various paper and canvas. I tend to work with abstract, surreal, expression, sometimes collage. There is a lot of symbolism in many of my pieces. I work with my heart and intuition, combined with technical knowledge. I like to experiment with different media together to come up with new ways of expressing myself. Also I love to draw technical pieces.
How it’s Made
I lovingly collected all these dove feathers when an old friendly bird molted, for several years. I arranged them into wing sets, thinking it would be wonderful to use the whole wing of feathers for something decorative. I kept them in a box for ages until I finally decided it was time to create something from them. I had this beautiful pale pink suede and when I put them next to each other, I decided it was perfect. This beautiful little fan of dove feathers, with its soft leather base, can be used for many things but my favorite is the crown. By turning it upside down , placing it in the middle of the forehead, and then tying the long straps around the back of the head, it creates a beautiful crown. Or if you prefer, it will also spread wonderfully across the chest, just by tying the straps behind the neck. I hope you enjoy wearing it as much as I enjoyed arranging those feathers and creating this magnificent bit of art!
Shop Policies
All of my pieces are one of a kind, there will not be two identical pieces, aside from art prints, which I do not offer at this time. Expect 5-7 days before the product is shipped. No returns.
Jewelry: Stones and their settings can be cleaned using mild soap and a soft toothbrush. Or use jewelry cleaner to clean the silver or copper or steel, but do not use it on the stones since it will erode the stone over time. Keep them dry unless cleaning. Always rinse or wipe thoroughly after cleaning.
Art: Do not get them wet or clean with solvents! Only the acrylic paintings can be cleaned -- If necessary use a slightly dampened (with water) lint-free cloth to gently wipe the surface of the acrylic painting. Do not clean any of my other pieces with water! All paper should be framed with a glass panel and a spacer (example: mat board) between the art and the glass.
