About this Product
I created this dragon jar over the course of a year by working small parts. It was a labor of love as I carefully tried to create the picture in my mind.
It began with the head sculpted for fun as an example. Soon it began to haunt me. So I made the jar and added the mostly hollow body and head. Next I determined where to place it's legs and feet and claws. After that it rested.
Later each frill and scale was hand shaped to fit and carefully attached one at a time.
When it came time to glaze I knew I wanted the round jar to be deep blue. It is a reminder of the earth and the water that allows all life to thrive. For the dragon I settled on the lovely greens and blues that also remind us of life and I began the job of painting the dragon. Once again each frill, scale and claw required individual attention to make sure no part was left untended.
When it was time to put it through the glaze firing I held my breath until I saw it was whole. Then I began the process of applying the 22k gold luster and the mother of pearl highlights which required one more firing.
This jar is approximately 10" x 10" x 10"

Meet the Maker
The very essence of pottery begs to be touched. The smooth glaze, the grit of the clay, the bumps of texture are a pleasure to both hand and eye. To fully appreciate it, it must be handled.
Each piece of my work is unique and yet meant to be used daily.
After making pots for 20+ years I still enjoy the way the clay moves in my hands and the surprise of opening a fresh glaze kiln. I can make a set if you’d like one.
Until then I will be following my imagination down the next spiral of clay.
