About this Product

Just as books inspire us to explore and imagine vast unknown places, these photos are meant to offer glimpses to a world hidden behind the reality of our every day life. All photos are ones that I have taken, and are of places that I have explored. Most of these places are miles from the highway, on trails deep in the Sierra Nevada.

Forge of Embers

Meet the Maker

You've entered a shop on a quiet street. There's no bell to alert anyone of your entry; you are free to browse uninterrupted or observed. Thick heavy curtains are on each of the tall windows by the door, pulled back to light the entire room by day. Glass covered candle brackets stand by around the room to provide light by night. The side walls are each covered in shelves filled with books and journals. Tables are scattered throughout the room holding various extras like books and artwork. The very back wall has a door, presumably leading to the owner's spaces and a counter that looks more like the reference desk of an ancient library. The wall behind the desk has rectangular cubbies, filed with loose pages, bits of leather, and other pieces to make or repair the books on display. Beside the desk sits a large black dog, calmly watching out into the shop. A small table the corner nearest the dog seems to hold items that are wholly different from the rest of the shop. Recent inventions, or temporary items perhaps? You look around again and start to notice that you are entirely alone. The shop's layout simply provides you with privacy to look around at the products and displays. You look again at the dog. He seems to be grinning back at you.

Welcome to the Forge of Embers.

How it’s Made

These bookmarks are made from photos that I have taken, printed and cut to a bookmark appropriate size. They are hand painted on the back with either lines or circles for added stability and visual appeal. The captions are cut from vinyl and adhered to the front. The entire bookmark is then laminated for durability and longevity.
