About this Product
Every Day Carry (EDC) pen and mechanical pencil sets (1 pen and 1 pencil per set). Pick from (left to right in the main picture) mahogany, maple, or walnut.
These pens and pencils are what I carry and use every day for my "day job"!
The design on these pens and pencils is modern/industrial with a focus on durability. They have ultra-reliable, 100% all metal German engineered Schmidt click mechanisms with smooth, quiet performance (they don't even audibly click!!!). The ultra-fine knurl texture on the end makes the pen easy to hold with superior writing stability. The pen clip is designed to be able to grip thicker materials (like the pockets on my canvas coat) and since the clip is removable, it can be bent slightly (very carefully since I do not cover if you snap it on accident) to achieve the desired retention.
The pens come with a Schmidt Easy Flow 9000 Parker style refill installed which is what I use in my personal pens. (you can find a variety of Parker style refills to suit your writing preferences, just search "Parker refill"). I also include the generic ink refill that comes with the components so you have a backup on hand (shipped uninstalled).
The pencils are .7mm lead with an 1/8 inch diameter eraser (a common size if you need to find a replacement).
The pictures show examples of what these pens/pencils look like and the different wood options available. Note that since wood is variable, the exact color and grain pattern is also variable. I always try to match color and grain as closely as possible for these sets. Pens and Pencils are finished with a extremely durable high-gloss CA finish that seals the whole pen and makes them highly water resistant and very durable. Note that all wood finishes may degrade over time, however this will not reduce the usability of the pen/pencil and a CA finish is one of the most durable finishes there is.
The set will ship in a leatherette zippered pen case as shown in the images. Please note that I do not make these cases.
My goal is to ship all purchases as quickly as I can, however I do have a "day job" so can guarantee that I will ship absolutely no later than the next Friday/Saturday. Also, please note that depending on the quantity purchased and how large my stock is at the time of order, I may have to make more to fill your order. If this happens I will contact you with an estimated ship date. Larger orders may be further delayed if I have to procure components beyond what I have on hand. As always, let me know if you are looking for custom work or large batches of items and we can work it out!
Raven's Woodturning

Meet the Maker
I started wood turning around 2010 when I discovered a love for lathes while working as a precision machinist. Since then lots has happened and while I haven't always been in a place where I could set up my lathe, I never considered leaving it behind. Now I'm thrilled to find myself in a place in life where I have dedicated shop/studio space and am taking full advantage. I've always enjoyed precision work and sometimes it's all I can do to remind myself that breaking out the micrometers isn't really necessary. I'm constantly looking for new ways to give my skills and challenging myself with new techniques and projects. Thanks for checking out my work and feel free to contact me if there's anything you're looking for but don't see.

How it’s Made
I turn and assemble these pens and pencils in small batches, usually 3 sets at a time. I find this is the right size batch to allow for efficiency (which keeps costs down) while still keeping an eye to quality. I buy lumber from a local hardwood store that focuses on ensuring responsible harvesting and processing as well as reducing overall carbon footprint with their business. I mill and process the lumber into pen blanks in my solar-powered shop in the mountains east of Albuquerque New Mexico. All the wood waste that I generate goes back into my property and is used as animal bedding, compost, and mulch. When I go to make a batch of pens or pencils, I always start by laying out the components and verifying quality. Then I select blanks, cut them to size and drill them. I use a premium grade CA glue for fixing the wood to the core brass tubes and then square the ends of the wood to the axis of the tube. Then it's the fun part! I turn each tube (there is only one tube for each of these pens/pencils) one at a time on my bench top lathe. I then sand and finish each tube before moving on to the next one in the batch. This methodical approach allows me to spend more time looking at each part and addressing any issues as they arise. After turning all the wood parts, I move to the assembly area where I hand press each component into the tubes to create the finished pen or pencil. At each step I inspect my own work to ensure that each product I finish is one I will feel proud to sell.
