How it’s Made
The head and torso of this figure were first sculpted in clay and then cast in plaster. A method known as 'slip casting' was used to create a positive that was then bisque fired. After color accents were applied, the bisque fired pieces were then glazed and fired a final time to achieve vitrification. The upper legs and arms were carved by hand in various hardwoods. The lower legs and feet are cast in lead-free pewter to add weight that stabilizes the figure.
