About this Product
Fine Silver Floral Butterfly Pendant
This fine silver pendant is the perfect representation of spring, and is a unique piece of jewelry that captures the delicate beauty of nature and stands out with artisanal craftsmanship.
Our fine silver pendant is hand-forged from raw silver into a breathtaking design of butterflies and flowers, featuring a stunning teal moss kyanite stone.
The pendant showcases a rose-cut, 8mm teal moss kyanite, set in a handmade bezel cup, and is surrounded by hand-sawn flowers and a prominent butterfly, all embossed into fine silver. The back is adorned with multiple butterflies, adding an element of surprise and intricacy.
Complete with a sterling chain with handmade links and clasp, this pendant has been given a patina to highlight the details and polished to a brushed finish. It’s perfect for those who appreciate the elegance of nature and the charm of handcrafted jewelry.
Specs:
The pendant weighs approximately 1.10 troy ounces and measures 1 3/4 inches at its widest point. The 22-inch chain is thoughtfully designed with additional links, allowing you to wear it symmetrically or asymmetrically and adjust the length for your comfort.
This is a one of a kind piece. No duplicates will be made.
**All metals are prone to discoloration over time due to a chemical reaction called oxidation. When metals are exposed to oxygen, water, sweat, lotions, and even oils from your own skin it will oxidize.
Most of the items we make have a patina already applied to them, but if the piece is left out and exposed to oxygen, the patina will naturally darken. Copper will turn a deep, rich brown color at times resembling leather or even wood.
Do not expose your piece to water. Activities such as swimming, showering, cleaning, cooking and exercising can cause your piece to degrade over time and should be avoided.
Avoid exposure to harsh chemicals like household detergents.
You may clean your piece with a simple microfiber polishing cloth.

Meet the Maker
Thank you for taking the time to learn about my work. I am a visually impaired silversmith based in East Tennessee, not far from Chattanooga. Although I've only been working with metal for a few years, I've always been an artist in one capacity or another. As a child I learned how to sketch from my grandfather who was an artist, sign painter and, who his family believes, was the inventor of the first bottle jack. He was a pretty amazing guy. I've also been a photographer which is a medium I really miss.
Not long ago the lens in the right eye detached and because I don't have a lens in my left eye, it has left me pretty dependent on other people, mostly my husband. I don’t know how life would be without his support.
Probably the worst thing you can do to a visual artist is to take away their ability to see, but because I am just that stubborn, I decided that I wasn't going to let this problem defeat me. I pulled out the old stereo microscope and purchased a micro welder. With perseverance and a few specialized tools to assist me, I am able to create what I visualize in my mind.
My pieces have evolved into wearable art inspired by nature. I love the organic shapes and textures of the natural world, and I strive to capture those elements in my work. I use a variety of techniques to achieve my desired effect, including hammering, soldering, and polishing. I am always experimenting with new designs and materials, and I am excited to see where my work will take me in the future.

How it’s Made
HOW ITS MADE:
Forging the Silver:The journey begins with a raw bar of fine silver, which is heated and softened with a jewelers torch, then manually flattened using a jewelers mill. This process, known as forging, alters the metal’s shape without changing its volume.
Imprinting the Butterflies:On the back of the pendant, multiple butterflies are imprinted. This is done by pressing the silver sheet against a hand-carved steel plate, transferring the delicate butterfly designs onto the metal.
Forming the Front Butterfly:A second bar of fine silver is similarly forged into a sheet. This sheet is then pressed into a jeweler’s die using a manual press. The pressure forms the silver into the butterfly shape that adorns the front of the pendant.
Utilizing Scrap Silver:The scraps from the initial forging process are not wasted. They are melted down and re-forged into a small sheet, which is then imprinted with a floral pattern.
Creating the Bezel Cup:The stone is measured and from the same scrap silver, a piece of silver is forged and then formed around the stone. A bezel cup is handmade by soldering that piece of forged silver onto a backplate. This creates a cup that holds the kyanite stone in place on the pendant.
Sawing and Carving:Each flower surrounding the central butterfly is hand-sawn, a precise technique that involves cutting the metal along the drawn floral pattern. A seat for the bezel cup is carefully carved into the central flower to ensure the stone fits perfectly.
Soldering the Components:The butterfly, flowers, bezel cup, and additional hand-forged embellishments are individually soldered to the backplate. Soldering is a process where a filler metal is melted to join pieces of metal together.
Applying the Patina:A patina is applied to the entire piece, including the sterling chain with handmade links and clasp, which helps the details stand out.
Setting the Stone:The teal moss kyanite stone is then set into the bezel cup. The stone is carefully placed and the edges of the cup are pressed over the stone to secure it.The edges are then burnished down with hand held jeweler tools.
Final Touches:Lastly, the entire piece is polished to a brushed finish, which gives it a soft, matte look while allowing the intricate details to shine.
The result is a piece that is left with specific tooling marks reflecting the metalsmithing process, with each step contributing to the overall beauty and uniqueness of the piece. It’s a wearable work of art that tells a story of craftsmanship and attention to detail.
