Meet the Maker

I am pleased to say at this stage in my life, I am a professional and national award-winning artist. I have been drawing and painting for most of my life with more than 50 years of art experience through prestigious artists workshops and self-teaching and it took me a long time to give myself this career title as we artists are always our own worst critic.

My roots were planted at an early age as a traditional oil painter, but I love creating in several other mediums as well including graphite drawing, watercolor painting and needle felt and fiber, which I started exploring over the Covid days in 2020. I figured hey, why not try something new while it was quiet, and I fell in love with the texture of the wool and fibers! I still use the other mediums today; it just depends on how I feel on a given day.

After teaching art classes privately for over 40 years and studying art myself, I felt that color mixing was never addressed clearly enough in any of the workshops I took or in books I read, so I began my journey to understand color mixing. By mixing lots of color groups I eventually found that the easiest way to mix was to use less colors using the Color Wheel, a tool we all seem to have but never really know what to do with it. This led me to write a book that was also in part, inspired by my students, titled "Harmonious Color Schemes, a no-nonsense approach using the Color Wheel" which was published in 2014 under my name Elaine Barrette Farmer and can be purchased as a text book through Amazon still today. I am also proud to say that The Color Wheel Company endorsed my book, allowing me to use their Color Wheel in examples I created for the book, and they also have a link on their website tying it to Smashwords, a digital publication.

I have created over 80 coloring book images and because of the teacher in me, I created the Step-by-Step instructions to go with them. I love sharing my art knowledge and although I consider myself semi-retired, I don't see myself ever stopping creating or teaching the odd art class here and there anytime soon.

I am also a juried member of numerous associations including the New Hampshire Art Association and the League of New Hampshire Craftsmen.

I do offer prints for several artworks so if you are interested, please feel free to contact me.

Thank you for visiting my shop!
