Our shelves are made from solid pine wood, available in a variety of stain colors and size options to seamlessly complement your existing decor. Each shelf is crafted with care and attention to detail, offering a unique wood grain pattern that makes every piece one-of-a-kind. The natural characteristics of the wood mean that no two shelves will ever be identical – each stain takes to the wood differently, adding to their unique charm. Please note that while we try our best to represent stain colors accurately in the listing photos, there may be slight variations between the color shown and the shelf you receive. We cannot guarantee an exact match to the stain examples in our listing photos. Each piece of wood absorbs stain differently, and variations in wood grain will affect the final appearance. Additionally, screen contrasts differ on each device, which may cause the color to appear slightly different in person.

Features:• Customizable Sizes: Choose from a range of depth options (4”, 6”, 8”, and 10”) with a standard shelf height of 3”. We also offer custom length and depth options – message us for a personalized quote. (Please note: Due to sanding during the finishing process, the shelf height may vary slightly. If you require the height to be exactly 3”, let us know, and we will do our best to accommodate your request.)

• Easy Installation: Each shelf includes a hidden bracket, 3” screws for wall mounting, and 1 1/4” screws to secure the shelf to the bracket. Simple instructions are included to make installation a breeze.
• Unique Wood Grain: Due to the natural variation in wood, each shelf will showcase its own distinct grain pattern and stain absorption.

Corner Shelf Ordering Guide:
For corner shelves, you will need to order two shelves to achieve the corner look.
To calculate the correct dimensions:1. Determine the length you want on each wall.2. Subtract the depth of one shelf from the total length to get the size of the second shelf.
Example: For 24” shelves on both sides with an 8” depth, order one 24x8 shelf and one 16x8 shelf (24” - 8” = 16”).If you’re unsure about sizing, feel free to message us – we’re happy to help!

Shipping & Returns:
Processing Time: Our current production time is 1-2 weeks. We appreciate your patience as we carefully craft each order.
Returns: We accept returns within 3 days of delivery. However, because each shelf is made-to-order based on your specific length and stain selection, we cannot accept returns due to slight color variations in the stain.
Please note that all return requests must be made within 3 days of receiving your item, and the customer is responsible for return shipping costs. The original shipping fee will not be refunded, even for orders over $35 where shipping was listed as “free.” Once we receive the returned shelf, we will inspect it to ensure it is in its original, unused condition. We will then issue a refund for 75% of the order total. Please keep in mind that we cannot accept returns if the shelf shows signs of damage or wear.

How our story began!
Welcome to Soil and Sawdust! Thank you for visiting our shop. We’re a husband-and-wife team with three active boys, and we’re thrilled to share our story with you. Our journey began with a passion for both woodworking and gardening, and crafting unique birdhouses was where it all started. Over time, however, as our business grew, we found ourselves dedicating more time to our top-selling items: floating shelves and mug racks. These pieces have become customer favorites, and we're excited to offer them as part of our collection. Though our focus has shifted, our love for crafting birdhouses remains at the heart of what we do. We still offer birdhouse kits and are always open to custom orders. Whether you’re looking for a personalized birdhouse or a DIY kit, we’re happy to create something special for you. As a family, we enjoy spending time outdoors camping, hiking, and finding inspiration in nature. Our boys share in our love for creativity, and together, we constantly explore new ways to bring that creativity into our work. Shop Policies
What is your current production time?
All of our products typically ship within 1-2 weeks. While we understand that waiting can be inconvenient, we believe the quality of our products makes it well worth the wait. The extended timeframe is not due to the complexity of production, but rather the high volume of active orders we are diligently working to fulfill. Our Birdhouse Kit ships within 2-3 weeks, and our stain samples are dispatched within 3-5 days
Care instructions
To maintain the quality of your shelves and coffee mug racks, we recommend dusting them regularly with a soft cloth or feather duster. Please note that we do not apply a polycrylic protectant to our shelves unless specifically requested or purchased as part of your order. For your birdhouses, we suggest applying a protective coat of polyurethane each spring to help preserve their longevity. As our products are made from real wood, proper care is essential, as exposure to moisture or improper cleaning methods can cause warping over time.
Can you make different sizes than what is listed in your shop?
We are more than happy to accommodate custom orders to meet your specific needs. Please feel free to reach out and share the sizes or design details you are looking for. We have also created custom birdhouses for customers who provided reference images, and we are always willing to work closely with you to ensure you receive the best product and service possible.
Do you offer free shipping?
Yes, we offer free shipping within the United States, excluding Alaska, Hawaii, and Puerto Rico. If you wish to place an order from one of these regions, please contact us with your address, and we will provide a shipping quote. If an order is placed directly through our website without prior contact, we will reach out to you directly to inform you of any applicable shipping charges.
