About this Product

Add this charming "Biggie" hen to your country farmhouse, or gift it for a thoughtful treasure that can be displayed throughout the year. It will be the perfect addition next to your tiered tray, as part of a primitive gathering in a basket of old kitchen utensils atop an old dough table, in a corner cupboard, or anywhere else your muse suggests!

This larger version of my primitive chicken, which measures approx. 6.5"T X 8.5"W (+/- 1"), is fashioned from a bit of antique (circa 1890's-1920's) quilt top made in deliciously patterned fabrics. I added an extra layer of cotton batting to stabilize the fragile old fabrics, so she's softly padded, but not quilted. The fabulous fowl features a hand painted beak and comb, and a speckled brown button eye. A jute twine bow with an aged round metal rimmed tag, hand stamped with "PRIM" lettering trims her neck. She is finished with a VMB signature posey crafted from my proprietary blend of "tea dyed" polymer clay and an ever so vintage dimpled glass Japanese pearl button.

All of my items are available across multiple platforms and are sold first come, first served. While I do have other biggie hens available at the time this one is listed, please consider that these are created from an ANTIQUE quilt, LIMITED in availability, and impossible to replicate exactly due to the "crazy" nature of the fabrics assembled by the original seamstress. If you love one of these ladies now, best to make your purchase when you see it to avoid disappointment!

Fabric/quilts/trimmings with an indication of "vintage" or "antique" are NOT new; therefore, they may have wear, uneven color, small holes, and other age-appropriate imperfections. I make every effort to use the best parts of any fabrics, but they are seldom pristine. All of my fabric items are sewn completely around and a slot is cut into the back piece, which is NEW fabric, for turning and stuffing. When you see a hand stitched seam on the back, it is deliberate, not a flaw. By creating my pieces this way, I can achieve better more accurate shapes than I would by hand sewing shut a curve or corner. ~B~

October 28, 2024: As promised, I'm back from my adventures as a craft show vendor this past weekend with a few new goodies to add over the course of this week, with more on the way as I get them finished. The weather here is somewhat less than warm and cozy, but I'll be doing my best to get good pictures for you as quickly as possible. (I do my photography outside since the high peaks of my vintage roof and the stunning antique gold hammered glass windows of this old church I call home are not good helpers for great indoor lighting!)
