Meet the Maker

Hello, thank you for taking an interest in my creations and visiting my shop. My given name is Donna but since my brother referred to me as Pippie the Hippie in the presence of my two girls, I have been renamed Pippie. I can't wait to hear my first grandbaby call me Pippie; although she has arrived, she is not talking yet.

I have been dabbling in the arts since my 2 girls went off to college and I had to find something to do to keep from going over the deep end. My husband also began working on the road around the same time and I found myself with way too much time on my hands, so I cleared out a space and began painting. Since then, I have explored almost every medium available, but I think I have found my favorite to be textiles. My mother is a quilter she also has cross-stitched, knitted & crocheted over the years. My grandmother was a quilter and crocheted, so it must be genetic. As an Aquarius, I find it difficult to follow rules and patterns and I quickly discovered quilting and knitting was not the technique for me. I do love fabric and other textiles so I began exploring the many ways they can be manipulated to create visual texture. I do love texture, when I was painting, it was all about texture. I am currently exploring painting on fabric then stitching. Oh, the many ideas! I am also a lover of books, so of course I must cover some books in fabric.

The universe has been good to me, blessing me with two beautiful daughters and I now have a granddaughter, I am over the moon in love with her.

Once again, thank you for visiting my shop and I hope you enjoy my creations as much as I enjoy creating them.

Love & Stitches,

Pippie

How it’s Made

My framed fabric art is made with mostly upcycled fabric. It is a process of layered fabric and trims then a layer of sheer organza. Machine stitches are added, then the fabric stems, then the upcycled silk and/or cut from fabric flowers are added with handstitches. Additional handstiching is added then the edges are finished off with machine zigzag stitches. Finished pieces are mounted on white framing board then placed in a black frame without glass. The glass is included behind the piece, in the frame, if you choose to use the glass. Most of my framed fabric art are 3 Demensional and placing them behind glass diminishes the look, plus I sometimes just like to touch them and feel the texture. I use black frames just because it is more appealing to the eye for me; you may choose to replace the frame with any other frame you like.
