The wings measure 1 1/8” x 1 1/2” and hangs 2 1/4” from handmade sterling silver wires.

Enclosed in clear resin, these delicate wonders represent one of nature’s most beautiful, varied, and iconic creatures. These being natural, no two will be alike, even if from the same species. Rest assured, all of our wings are harvested from butterflies that, before dying a natural death, are raised in aviaries throughout the world. Female butterflies are carefully transported to large, enclosed habitats to lay their eggs, up to thousands each. In such a protected and cared for environment, virtually 100% percent of the creatures survive, circumventing the high attrition typical of life in the wild. Upon reaching maturity, many specimens are released back into the wild to help support or restore indigenous populations. The rest are kept in the protected environment for their life duration, a week or so in most cases. Then, businesses like ours as well as museums and universities will purchase the deceased specimens for use in various forms of artwork, biological/DNA study, evolutionary trending, environmental adaptation, mutation research, disease tolerance and other purposes. Ultimately, the revenue generated from the sale of butterflies/wings serves to support butterfly sanctuary operations which in turn assures demonstrative preservation efforts to prevent such delicate species from becoming endangered or extinct. These measures even furnish financial incentives to third world countries to preserve and maintain their nature habitats. This is why we feel privileged to be a part of this process.
