About this Product
Hel is the queen of the afterlife realm of Hel in Norse mythology. She is the daughter of the god Loki and giantess Angrboda and sister of Fenrir the wolf and Jörmungandr the World Serpent. Her name means "hidden" and refers to the dead who are either buried or cremated and whose souls are invisible to the living. Seen as a gentle and motherly goddess of death, she eases the transition from the world of the living, to the halls of the dead with grace and compassion. Her symbols include ravens, dark horses, graveyards, corpses and death from natural causes.
Being death positive, and researching end of life care, is as vital to working with Hel as is shadow work and respecting the souls of the dead. Everyone eventually dies, and your perception ABOUT your inevitable passage matters a great deal to her, as is honoring your ancestors and the cycle of life. She's the master of duality; her face is half beautiful woman, half rotting corpse, so this black and white split represents the two sides to human nature, and reminds us that we're not one or the other, but a balance of both. Always one foot on land, another in the grave.
This 5 oz deity altar jar is filled with things that represent Hel, such as obsidian, moonstone, jasmine flowers and rose petals, and has been extensively researched to be the best it can be. The wax on the top of the jar can either be black, white, or a marbling of both. Please let me know which you prefer when you order
