About the Artist:

Art is what we do. We have been around it our whole life. My entire family does art. We wake up every morning for the next piece, the next adventure. We love what We do and our customers are awesome they support the love We have for what we do. My wife and I own a art studio in Gatlinburg TN so at anytime you want to see the creative process in action your welcome to stop in we would love for you to come and watch us carve . I posted a video on my website so you can see a little of it in action :

How it’s done:

The art starts off with a log that is hand picked for the proportion of the animal that I sculpt. It’s a special wood that is called royal paulownia it grows with a natural whole down the center of the log to keep it from cracking as bad as other woods . It has to be perfect with no blemishes or impurities . I usually only sculpt animals that are home to the smoky mountains or North America . I than sculpt with a chainsaw each piece I rough out the design and form. The second step is the angle grinder I use to do the sanding of the piece from there I use multiple detailing tools from rotary tools to chisels to complete the carve. I finish off each carving with a marine quality spar varnish to insure the piece is good to live inside or outside.

It’s a Very unique one of a kind piece hand carved with a chainsaw and hand tools .

How it’s Made

The first step is picking the type of log we’ll use. Royal Paulownia is my go-to because it’s one of the best woods out there - it cracks the least and looks amazing.

Next up is my favorite part: bringing the art piece to life through visualization and sculpting. This is where the real magic happens, and it takes a lot of time and effort. We use multiple tools to refine the subject and make it come alive.

Finally, we get to the finishing touch. This is where the hard work pays off, and it takes some serious time and skill. We burn, paint, and seal the piece to protect it from the elements. We use spar varnish, which is a marine-quality finish that will last for years.
