About this Product

Unique rugs which have been created out of reclaimed t-shirts. These rugs are one-of-a-kind, handwoven and hand stitched with care, measuring roughly 36 inches in diameter. I braid each strand of tshirt together and then hand-sew it into a spiral. This creates an amazing mandala design which is unlike any other!

This soft and cozy rug will cushion your feet and look stylish at the same time. Easy to care for, toss it in the washer and let it hang dry, or take it outside and gently shake it to prolong it's life. Vacuum when needed. I also spot clean, or spritz mine with a bit of febreze or water and then dry flat. Makes a great, eco-conscious gift for someone special. Or, gift it to yourself, and have a beautiful sustainable piece in your home. Once purchased, this item is packaged with love and care and shipped out as soon as possible!

Meet the Maker

I learned to sew at a young age, and would create clothing and blankets for my dolls. I even dabbled in embroidery. My nickname was Katiebug, and ladybugs drew me in, with their cute lil polkadots. They truly are the meaning behind "Panic in Polkadots."

In High School, I began to made clothes for myself, since nothing ever seemed to fit right: to my body or my personality. I would modify clothes, buy clothes from thrift stores, cut them up and bleach them. I loved creating things, and I loved owning something unique that no one else had. Often, people would ask where I got my fashions. But, it seemed difficult to make clothes for anyone else but me. I didn't use conventional methods of measuring and drawing up patterns. I just went for it, cut and sewed until it seemed right, creating little masterpieces along the way.

Eventually, I was introduced to the world of collage. I made several collages of any size and theme, using paint, mod podge, old canvases, and magazine clippings. I would sit for hours and cut up zines into letters and little pictures and quotes, to fill a shoebox. Soon thereafter, I picked up the art of candle pouring. I bought candle tins but decided that they needed a little decoration, so I decoupaged them. These unique candles were decorative and functional. All of a sudden, people wanted to buy my product, and I loved to create the individualized, unique items!

Panic in Polkadots took off! I began looking into what else to create, bottlecap jewelry, wristbands made out of fabric scraps, camera cases with film camera prints! But once I started creating animal friends, I knew right away that these would be my signature product. One raccoon started it all, and I still have her to this day. So many animal friend stuffed animals and ice cream cones and cupcakes have found amazing homes. I am over the moon about it!

Lately, embroidery consumes my time, and I am forever inspired by my favorite band: AFI. I hope to continue to create and share these little masterpieces with y'all!

So, let's keep this creativity going for many years to come. It's raining polkadots, did you bring YOUR umbrella?

Hello! ☂️

How it’s Made

Unique rugs which have been created out of reclaimed t-shirts. Shirts are cut into strips about 2-2.5 inches wide. I loop each strand through the next and keep connecting them as I braid. I braid each strand of tshirt together with moderate tension, and then hand-sew it into a spiral. Keeping the tension of the braided strands in mind as I curve around, and constantly checking for uneven bulges or bends. This creates an amazing mandala design which is unlike any other!
