Sizes vary but are approximately 10" x 5-7" x 3/4" thick. (Please note there may be slight discrepancies based on the cut of the wood, the planing to get a good-looking grain pattern, the sanding, or the nature of wood in general).

Get it however you like:

1. With no engraving.

2. With no engraving and upgrade to 2 oz. board butter (a small amount once a month will make your board new. And this 2 oz tub will last you years).

3. Or the ultimate upgrade - personalized engraving using a whimsical rustic handwritten font (& includes the board butter).

Purpleheart is an exotic hardwood from South America that is naturally reddish, purple in color (no stain or coloration is used in the pictures). However, Purpleheart WILL change color over time. It is the outer layer of the wood that when exposed to light and heat will turn purple. Over the years, this layer will become more reddish-brown again. So it will NOT stay purple forever. It may take time, but you will see it age and change (along with you!)

People will often request a certain shade of Purpleheart. I'm sorry but I can't control that! Purpleheart is a "catch-all" category for over 20 sub-species of tree, each with different shades and hues to its wood. Purpleheart (and its coloration) is all-natural and different trees yield different hues and tones. Some are more reddish, some bright purple, some plum and some all colors in between. (I've tried to show some of the different colors I have gotten in the past in my listing.)

Each photo is untouched, but each batch of purpleheart wood comes to me sight unseen. As a result, I often do not know what it will look like until it's finished. But I can guarantee you that it will be a one-of-a-kind product that others be envious of.

Sizes vary but are approximately 10" x 5-7" x 3/4" thick. (Please note there may be slight discrepancies based on the cut of the wood, the planing to get a good-looking grain pattern, the sanding, or the nature of wood in general).

PLEASE NOTE - personalization is with this font only. If you want something more customized with a different design, message me for a custom quote (additional set up charge for 3 proofs applies).

Meet the Maker

What a long, strange trip it's been! A short bio of me goes like this: I have a 30 year career in the non-profit sector including 16 years in higher education as a Dean of Online Programs and Assistant Professor. I even was a former "teacher of the year" winner at my college. But Covid and variety of other factors caused an awakening: I want to work with wood!

So I started the process of creating my own small business which involves laser engraving and wood working. I have 3 industrial lasers, a CNC and (so far) still 10 fingers. So far, so good, right???

My goal is easy - I try to make rustic modern designs that appeal to a variety of styles and decor. One of the things I do that's a bit different is I use exotic woods (from South America, Africa, Asia and Central America). These woods you can't get in the "big box" stores and have very unique patterns and colors different than the typical walnut, cherry or maple (which I use too!)

The end result is I make one-of-a-kind creations that are sure to really warm your home and elicit ooh's and aah's from your guests.

How it’s Made

Making cheese boards is actually a bit more a tedious process than simply making cutting boards. After I choose the patterns of wood (color combinations) I glue them together and plane down. Next comes cutting the board to the exact side, and then drilling the holes and groove for the slicing hardware. Next comes what I describe as the "gauntlet" of sanding using 6 different grits of sandpaper to get a glass-like finish. Finally comes the "oil bath" using a food grade mineral oil/wax blend followed by a cutting board wax to give it a "velvety" feel to the fingers. Next comes the slicing hardware and rubber stoppers to make sure it doesn't slide on you. Then it gets packaged up and on its way to you!
