About this Product

Carry your work essentials in effortless style! This tall messenger bag can hold a small laptop, notebooks, and has an interior zip pocket for keys, a small wallet, or pens and pencils. All seams are bound with grosgrain ribbon for an extra touch of refinement, and all edges are hand-skived and bound in leather or rolled. The lid sports a tree of life motif concho to add a little extra weight, helping keep everything in place. The strap is made from rugged and durable buffalo leather and is hand-sewn to the rest of the bag to ensure strength and durability for years to come.

Say "no" to fast fashion and "yes" to expressing your unique style through an artisan-made, one of a kind item designed to last!

Notes:

  • This gorgeous bag is one of only two ever made from this vintage leather; the other went to a charity auction benefitting St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

  • Mannequin is a US size 4, standing roughly 5'6"; due to the strap length constraints, this bag is best for someone in the petite size range.

  • Because this is made with vintage leather, be gentle and don't overload the bag. I have done my best to restore as much moisture and strength to the leather as possible and it should handle a laptop or tablet and a few notebooks just fine, but I wouldn't recommend heavier items like textbooks.

Meet the Maker

Kris has been a leatherworker since the summer of 2020 when her family took up archery as a hobby and she needed a quiver but didn't want anything plastic. Before completing her first project, she knew she wanted to do this for life: the care and intention that went into making a tangible item was in stark contrast with her work in IT and it was time to make a change. Fast forward a handful of years and she focuses on pattern design and selling one-of-a-kind creations.

How it’s Made

For this bag I started out with some research on similar silhouettes, picked a combination of features that I liked, and then drafted my own pattern. From there, I selected this vintage chrome tan leather that had been given to me by a friend, paired it with buffalo belt leather in a complementary color, and then chose antique brass for the hardware.

This bag is machine sewn, but there are handsewn elements in there too. The pocket zipper placket is handsewn, as is the strap connection points to the body of the bag. I use saddle stitching to ensure strength and durability whenever I can. The front edge is bound with a thin strip of leather to give it a polished finish, and the other edges of the bag e.g., the inside front and back where the lid is attached are hand-skived to reduce bulk. This is a process that can take hours and I use a round head knife for maximum control. The last seam treatment is a grosgrain ribbon binding for the internal seams, which gives the bag an extra touch of refinement.

I love this bag and I hope you do too. <3
