About this Product

Whimsical, eco-friendly top strap handbag woven using vintage fabrics that were part of an inventory of several hundred rolls of plain and printed fabric rolls from the 1980's. The color palette and small country prints are not only reminiscent of the 80's, but the real thing. The lining fabric comes from a large remnant (12+ yards) found at a local thrift store and the handles are made of white cotton webbing.

The pattern for making these bags results in a purse approximately 8 to 8-1/2 inches by 7-1/2 to 8 inches by 4 to 4-1/2 inches. Measurements may vary by up to one-half inch from bag to bag.

Currently, there are four variations available, based on the color and design of the fabric strips used to weave each bag. The fabric used for this listing sports a blue background with small white polka dots and a gray/dark blue flower motif outlined in white (photo 2 - blue).

#2 - the background color of this variation is the classic 1980's mauve, the tiny print of blue flowers with off white stems and leaves adds interest to the woven cloth (photo 3 - pink).
#3 - the fabric strips used to weave this variation had been cut to form horizontal stripes of mauve alternating with blue hearts on an off white background (photo 4 - beige).
#4 - dusty muted purple with tiny white polka-dots was the fabric used to round out this new collection of fun summer handbags (photo 5 - purple).

Care Instructions
For best results machine wash and air dry, reshaping as needed. I machine wash bags in cold water and turn them upside down, shape as necessary and leave to dry overnight.

Lyon Handwovens

Kansas City,
Welcome to Lyon Handwovens where creating handwoven textiles using sustainable yarns and vintage and repurposed fabrics is my mission.

Meet the Maker

Lyon Handwovens is a fusion of my early love of all things textile, a two decade career in environmental consulting, followed by another decade in quality. This fusion has resulted in narrowing my focus in weaving to using sustainable yarns (wool, cotton, silk) up-cycled materials (VHS tape, commercial carpet yarn, plastic shopping bags) and repurposed fabrics (dead stock and remnants from professional decorators, estate sales, thrift shops). Sustainability, like most things is not static and this journey I'm on will require ongoing adjustments, new paths and learning from others. I hope you'll check in periodically to see how my journey is progressing.
